The Coalition for Pet Protection medical emergency fund prefers to help clients only once. We encourage recipients to start their own “Pet Fund”. Saving a few dollars each week or month will help with the cost of getting their pets the emergency medical attention they need and deserve.

Assistance Calls & Food Pantry Guidelines

  • Call the hotline (402-434-7922) only once every 24 hours. If call more you will be put at the bottom of the call back list. If the amount of calls made by you is considered harassment you may not be called back at all.

  • You will receive help once every 60 days only.

  • Please meet when you say you are going to meet. If you fail to make a scheduled appointment without prior notification it will be up to YOU to reschedule. If you fail to do so your food will be given to someone else. If you are simply running late please call to let us know.

  • If you fail to make it to 2 scheduled appointments in 60 days you will not be allowed to receive food pantry benefits for 90 days from the last missed appointment.

  • If we make an exception and agree to deliver food to you please be ready to come out to the volunteer's vehicle to get the donation. Food WILL NOT be left. No exceptions will be made. If you are personally not able to do this please make arrangements for someone else to do it.

  • When you leave a message on the hotline (402-434-7922) please speak clearly so that you can be understood. Try not to be in a noisy area such as loud traffic or wind. If we cannot understand your message your call will not be returned.

  • If you want a call back from us please make sure that your voicemail is not full and is set up properly. If we are unable to get in touch with you we will be unable to help. When you call the hotline asking for help please be as specific as possible with your needs. Simply saying that you’re calling for some help with your pet is not enough for us to know the urgency of your call. If you have left a message with us we assume that you are expecting a call back. Please do not screen your calls when we try to get in contact with you. Calling us back in return will send you to voicemail and put you right back in the que.

Rescue with a Plan

We're happy that you have a heart big enough to want to take in that stray cat that you see wandering around your neighborhood. If you do not have a plan to house, feed, vet, and place that animal then please don't take him in. You cannot rely solely on the rescues in your community. They are spread thin working with the cases that they have. They may not be in a position to take on another. So before you take that kitty in and rescue him please search out available resources FIRST. Come up with a plan ahead of time. Please do not rescue and then chastise a group because they weren't able to help you with something that you made your responsibility.

Here's what a rescue will cost you:

  • Spaying/ Neutering (if needed)

  • Food

  • Vaccinations

  • Testing for Diseases

  • Toys and beds

  • Training (if needed)

  • Pet carrier (if needed)

  • Litterbox and cat litter (if needed)

  • Food and water bowls (if needed)

Facebook and Craig's List

Do not adopt out to Facebook or Craig's List. Your pet may be used for breeding, snake food, or other kinds of abuse. People can present themselves as anything to get what they want. People like this can be very manipulative. They know what you want to hear.

If you must rehome your animal please have the potential home fill out an adopted application, conduct a home visit, sign an adoption agreement, and follow up after a couple of weeks.

Food Pantry

In 2015 CPP helped 250 families and 400 pets by giving 375 bags of food. In addition various pet supplies were also given to those animals in need.

CPP's food assistance program serves low-income or fixed-income families and individuals by providing supplemental food for companion animals. This program is not intended to provide all the food necessary to sustain a pet, rather a supplement to help in a difficult time. CPP reserves the right to screen recipients. Please only call the hotline at (402) 434-7922 for assistance. Only call once. Your call will be returned. If you call more than once you are filling up our voicemail box and making it so that others who are in need cannot leave messages. Please be considerate of others and call only once. You will only be allowed to receive help from the food pantry once every 60 days.

Deliveries?

We do not normally do deliveries, but if it is necessary we would appreciate a small donation of some kind since our volunteers are using their vehicles and time. We will not deliver to the same home more than once a week.

If we make an exception and agree to deliver food to you please be ready to come out to the volunteer's vehicle to get the donation. Food WILL NOT be left. No exceptions will be made. If you are personally not able to do this please make arrangements for someone else to do it.

Food Requests?

Please do not request types or brands of food when you are scheduling a pick-up time. Our food is donated. We get what we get. We're sorry that we might not have the brand that you use. Unfortunately that is something that cannot be helped.

Vet Assistance Fund

We all want our pets to be healthy and happy, but sometimes they have bad days too. That’s why it’s important to anticipate future issues regarding their medical care, as veterinarian bills can add up quickly. It could happen to anyone with a pet. You've always managed to give your pet the medical care she deserves, but because of unexpected circumstances, you're faced with vet expenses that are far beyond your ability to afford them. CPP has a limited amount of funds available to assist with vet care. Because our funds depend on the amount of generous donations given to us we cannot always help and have to say no. Help us to be able to say "yes!" by making a donation.

CPP reserves the right to screen recipients. Please only call the hotline at (402) 434-7922 for assistance. Only call once. Your call will be returned. If you call more than once you are filling up our voicemail box and making it so that others who are in need cannot leave messages. Please be considerate of others and call only once.

We accept cash donations that will be used towards our vet assistance fund. You can also donate by check or by PayPal. Make sure to note “Vet Fund" when you complete the donation so we can allocate the funds accordingly. If you would like to mail a check please send it to the following address. Please be sure to note "Vet Fund" in the memo field.
